Herman(us) Brood (Zwolle, 1946 – Amsterdam, 2001) was for a long time known mainly as a musician and as the Dutch embodiment of the expression ‘sex, drugs & rock ‘n roll. At the end of the 1980s Brood became a well-known painter. He only worked in primary colors as he was color blind. After his death the Cobra Museum in Amstelveen mounted a large exhibition of his work, accompanied by photographs of his friend and photographer Anton Corbijn.
