Chris de Bueger (Amsterdam, 1948) lives and works in Amsterdam, where he studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy between 1966 and 1970 and specialized in painting and graphic. Shortly after his graduation, De Bueger moved to Morocco for a long period. There he started to make work closely related to New Figuration, mainly still live paintings in unconventional compositions. His later works initially were much more abstract – with dynamic patterns of spots, stripes and beams –, but during the past few years De Bueger paints and draws clearly recognizable figures or animals in his characteristic thin stroke. De Bueger has for many years been a teacher at the A.K.I. (Artez) in Enschede as well as at the Rijksacademy in Amsterdam. His work is included in many collections, such as the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
